The Basics of Photography

The name Photography is derived from a Greek word which means light writing. Photography firstly came to light in the year 1839; Sir John Herschel uncovered the secret of photography by discovering certain chemicals which were used to change the colors when exposed to light. Photography can be defined as the art of producing images by the action of light on the surface sensitize by chemical methods. Photography has become a form of art taking on several different types like photo-journalism, artistic photography, portrait photography, family photography, advertising photography, documentary photography, nature photography, satellite photography, underwater photography, event photography and architectural photography. For many people photography is a hobby where as for some it is a profession. One of the most recent introductions in photography is the digital photo and digital camera. In the modern era digital photo and digital camera has become increasingly popular.

Overview on Architectural photography

Architecture provides several different challenges for all the photographers. Officially, buildings can be a very demanding feature for all the photographers, however attaining excellent images is recognizing image deformation and judging the best time to capture the building at its most sensational moment. An architectural photography venture is a devotion of resources, time and money. Producing high quality images on a site can present various forms of challenges. In order to ensure maximum productivity and efficiency it is necessary to compose a systematic communication and planning among the owner of the site, representatives, client and the photographer.

Image Distortion

When a standard building appears to have lines running vertically and horizontally, these lines frequently appear to be distorted. Image distortion takes place when a photographer prefers a wrong point of view in order to click the photo or sometimes if he uses wrong equipments. Certain amount of image distortion can occur with most of the SLR cameras. For an architectural photography, view cameras are the ideal ones, as they minimize distortion and allow the photographer to shoot from the desired angle. Investing in a view camera is always worth but a photographer must be serious about architectural photography.

Tips on architectural photography

While photographing a tall building it is important for a photographer not to shoot too close from the base of the building. He should find a high advantage point if possible to obtain a better picture of the building. Being too close will make the base of the building looks larger in comparison to the top. Even different lights pass out different moods in a building. A building which looks uninteresting in the daytime can be interesting at night, due to the appearance of light which makes the building look more attractive. Even side lightings can produce long shadows along the front of the building which will add different moods to the image. Back lit buildings are exceptionally awkward to photograph and it is only possible when the photographer captures it as a silhouette. A photographer should also take great care when he shoots inside the building as the interior may be distracting to the final result of the image. It is always important for the photographer to remove all the objects which interface with the image.

Conclusion

Architectural Photography is one of the most demanding professions; however the rewards are great when a person masters all the techniques of photography. Similar to other photography, if a person practices hard he will achieve his goals because practice can always make a man perfect.
